Where students overspend
- Hardware bought before the design is final. Draw the circuit and list the parts first; changing sensors halfway doubles the bill.
- Paid hosting for a demo. A free plan is enough for an evaluation. Paid servers are for real users.
- API bills left running. A test script in a loop can burn through credit overnight. Use spending limits and test keys.
- Paying twice for the same work. A freelancer builds something the group cannot explain, the viva goes badly, and the work has to be redone.
Buying a ready-made FYP: the cost nobody lists
Ready-made projects are sold everywhere, and they look cheap until the viva. Examiners ask how a module works, why a table is designed a certain way, or what happens if an input is wrong. A group that did not build the system cannot answer, and submitting someone else’s work as your own breaks most universities’ academic integrity rules. The real cost can be a failed FYP or a repeated semester.
