FYP title examples for CS, SE and IT students

A good final year project title says three things in about eight to fifteen words: what the system does, who or what it is for, and the main technique behind it. Below are 60 FYP title examples grouped by area, the simple formula they follow, weak titles rewritten into strong ones, and what goes on the title page.

Your department’s FYP handbook has the final word on format. Everything here is written so you can adapt it to that handbook, not replace it.

The formula behind titles that get approved

Almost every title a committee approves without arguing can be broken into the same four parts. You rarely need all four, but you always need the first two.

Part What it tells the committee Example
Core technique How the problem is solved Deep learning based, Offline-first, Blockchain backed
System type What you are actually building Attendance system, Mobile app, Web platform, Dashboard
User or problem Who it is for, or what it fixes for small pharmacies, for crop disease detection
Context Where it applies, if that matters in Urdu, for Pakistani universities, in low-bandwidth areas

Put together: Offline-First Inventory and Billing App for Small Pharmacies in Low-Connectivity Areas. A committee member can read that once and know the scope, the user and the one technical idea they will question you on.

Weak titles, rewritten

These are the patterns supervisors send back most often. The fix is nearly always to replace a vague word with the specific thing you will build.

Weak title What is wrong Stronger title
Smart Hospital System “Smart” says nothing, and a whole hospital is not a final year scope. Appointment Scheduling and Queue Management System for Outpatient Clinics
AI Based Chatbot No user, no domain, no idea what the chatbot answers. Roman Urdu FAQ Chatbot for University Admission Queries Using Retrieval-Augmented Generation
Online Shopping Website Done thousands of times, with nothing new to defend. Multi-Vendor Marketplace for Home-Based Sellers with Cash on Delivery Reconciliation
Face Recognition Project Names a technique, not a system or a user. Face Recognition Attendance System for Classrooms with Spoof Detection
E-Learning App Using Flutter The framework is not the contribution. Adaptive Quiz App that Adjusts Difficulty to Each Student’s Past Answers
Blockchain for Everything No problem is being solved. Blockchain Backed Degree Verification Portal for Employers

Seven checks before you submit a title

  • Length. Eight to fifteen words is the comfortable range. Past twenty, a committee starts trimming it for you.
  • No empty adjectives. Smart, intelligent, advanced and modern add nothing unless the title says what makes it so.
  • A real user. “For small pharmacies” or “for outpatient clinics” tells the panel you have someone in mind to test with.
  • One technical idea. The title should name the part you will be questioned on in the viva, not list every library.
  • Scope you can finish. A hospital system is three projects. Appointment and queue management is one.
  • No brand names. “Like Daraz” or “Careem clone” invites the question of what is new.
  • Standard abbreviations only. AI, IoT and OCR are fine. Your own acronym belongs in the report, not the title.

What goes on the FYP title page

Most Pakistani departments issue their own title page template, and you should use it if they do. If they do not, this order is the common pattern.

Position Element Example
Top University logo and name Logo, then the full university name
Centre Project title The approved title, word for word
Below title Degree statement Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering
Middle Group members Full names with registration numbers
Middle Supervisor Name and designation, plus co-supervisor if any
Bottom Department and session Department of Computer Science, Session 2022 to 2026
Last line Month and year of submission June 2026

The title on this page, on the proposal and on the final report should match exactly. Mismatched titles are a small thing that examiners notice.

Changing your title after approval

Small wording changes, such as making the user group more specific, are usually handled through your supervisor before the mid evaluation. A change that alters what you are building normally needs the FYP committee’s approval again. Rules differ by department, so ask your FYP coordinator before you change the title anywhere official.

Once the title is settled, the next documents are the FYP proposal, then the SRS, design and final report, and finally the viva and defence.

FYP title questions

How long should an FYP title be?

Between eight and fifteen words works for most projects. It should be long enough to name the system, the user and the core technique, and short enough to fit on two lines of the title page.

Should I put the technology, like Flutter or React, in the title?

Usually not. The framework is a tool choice, not the contribution. Put the technique that matters to the problem, such as deep learning or offline-first sync, and mention frameworks in the proposal.

Can I use the word “smart” in my FYP title?

Only if the title also says what makes it smart. “Smart Irrigation System” is vague. “Soil Moisture Based Automatic Irrigation System” says the same thing and can be tested.

What is the difference between the FYP title and the project name?

The title describes the work for the committee. A project name, such as a short app name, is optional branding. Some groups put the name first, then a colon and the descriptive title, if the department allows it.

Can two groups have the same FYP title?

Most departments will not approve a title that duplicates a recent project unless the scope is clearly different. Check your department’s list of previous FYPs before submitting.
