Pick an IT FYP by the track you enjoy
BSIT projects are usually judged on how well technology is applied to a real need: deployment, integration and the people who use it. Start from the part of IT your group is strongest in:
| Track you enjoy | Project type that fits | Examples from this list |
|---|---|---|
| Web development | Business systems with roles, reports and integrations | Fee vouchers, pharmacy stock, QR menu ordering |
| Networking and system administration | Monitoring, identity and infrastructure projects | Network dashboard, single sign-on, backup system |
| Mobile development | Field apps that work offline or use location | Travel app, van management, lab attendance |
| Business and IT | Systems for a real organisation you can test with | Complaint management, HR and payroll, IT helpdesk |
Business and organisation system FYP ideas

How to make a management system more than CRUD
Many IT ideas are management systems, and examiners have seen hundreds. Yours stands out when it has most of these:
- A real user. A shop, school, NGO or department office that uses it during testing. A short email or letter from them confirming this is strong evidence in your report.
- Roles and permissions. Admin, staff and customer views that each see only what they should.
- Reports people need. Monthly summaries, exports to Excel or PDF and a dashboard with the numbers the owner checks every day.
- At least one integration. SMS, WhatsApp, a payment gateway, maps or a barcode scanner.
- Production basics. Deployed online, with backups, an audit log and a short user manual.
When you write it up, our guides on the FYP proposal, FYP documentation and viva questions will help.
Frequently asked questions
What are good FYP ideas for IT students?
Good BSIT ideas solve a real organisation’s problem and can be deployed for real users, for example a school fee voucher system, a pharmacy stock system with expiry alerts, a campus network monitoring dashboard or a WhatsApp ordering bot for small shops.
How is a BSIT FYP different from a BSCS FYP?
A BSIT project usually focuses on applying technology to a real need: deployment, integration, networking and the people who use the system. A BSCS project is more often judged on the difficulty of the computing problem. Rubrics vary, so check your university’s guidelines.
Is a management system a good FYP for IT students?
Yes, if it goes beyond adding, editing and deleting records. Add roles, useful reports, at least one integration such as SMS or payments, and test it with a real user. That is what separates a strong management system from a weak one.
Do I need a real client for my IT FYP?
It is not required everywhere, but it helps a lot. A real client gives you real requirements and real testing, and their confirmation that they used the system is strong evidence in your report and viva.
Which tech stack is best for a BSIT FYP?
Use the stack your group already knows well. Laravel with MySQL, the MERN stack or Django work well for web systems and Flutter for mobile apps. For networking projects, open-source tools such as Zabbix, pfSense and Keycloak are free and widely used.
