Careers & Internships article by Ezitech: 15 Mobile App FYP Ideas With Stack and Phone Features (2026)

A mobile app FYP stands out when it uses what only a phone can do: the camera, GPS, sensors, notifications and working without a signal. These 15 mobile app FYP ideas each list the modules to build, a suggested stack, the phone features you will use and the services you can test for free as a student.

Pick an idea your group can demo on a real phone, not only an emulator. None of these repeat the mobile ideas in our main list of 70 FYP ideas for computer science students.

FYP ideas by degree: AI · software engineering · IT · cyber security · data science · web development · Python · computer engineering (IoT) · business (BBA) · all 70 CS ideas

Free tools you can use as a student

  • Firebase on the free Spark plan: login, a database and push notifications
  • Google ML Kit: on-device text recognition and barcode scanning, with no server needed
  • OpenStreetMap through flutter_map or osmdroid, if you want maps without a billing account
  • Firebase App Distribution: send test builds to your supervisor and testers

Flutter, Kotlin or React Native?

Choose Flutter if you want one codebase for Android and iOS. Choose Kotlin if your idea depends on deep Android features, as ideas 1, 9, 14 and 15 do. Choose React Native if your group already knows JavaScript well.

15 mobile app FYP ideas

1. Used phone inspection report (Medium)

A buyer or seller runs a set of tests on a second-hand phone (screen, touch, speakers, microphone, cameras, sensors and battery) and gets a report with a QR code that anyone can scan to check it has not been edited.

  • Stack: Flutter with a local SQLite database
  • Phone features: offline storage, daily practice notifications
  • Integrations: none needed; take the content from official sign charts and cite them

3. Utility bill scanner with due-date reminders (Medium)

Photograph an electricity or gas bill and the app reads the reference number, amount and due date, reminds you before the due date, and charts the units used each month for every meter in the house.

  • Modules: bill capture, text recognition with manual correction, meters and households, due-date reminders, a monthly units chart, bill history
  • Stack: Flutter, Google ML Kit text recognition on the device, and SQLite or Firebase
  • Phone features: camera, on-device text recognition, notifications
  • Integrations: none required; payment stays in the user’s own banking app

4. Order booker app for distributors (Medium)

Distributors send order bookers to shops on fixed routes. The app plans the day’s route, records a GPS check-in at each shop, takes orders even with no signal, and syncs them for next-day delivery.

  • Modules: routes and shops, GPS check-in, order taking from the price list, credit limits per shop, an offline queue with sync, a supervisor dashboard on the web
  • Stack: Flutter with SQLite on the phone, and a Laravel or Node.js API with a web dashboard
  • Phone features: GPS, offline storage, background sync
  • Integrations: OpenStreetMap or Google Maps for shop locations

5. Surplus food pickup for restaurants and NGOs (Medium)

Restaurants and bakeries post food left at closing time with a pickup window. Nearby NGOs and verified volunteers claim it and confirm the pickup with a photo.

  • Modules: donor and NGO accounts with verification, food posts with quantity and pickup window, claim and confirm flow, pickup photos, a food safety checklist, meals-saved stats
  • Stack: Flutter or React Native, with Firebase Auth, Firestore and Cloud Messaging
  • Phone features: GPS, camera, push notifications
  • Integrations: OpenStreetMap or Google Maps for distance

6. Urdu for children growing up abroad (Medium)

Overseas Pakistani parents want their children to read and write Urdu. The app teaches each letter with tracing on the screen and audio, adds short reading games, and shows parents how their child is doing.

  • Modules: letter tracing with stroke checking, audio lessons, word and picture games, short read-along stories, a parent dashboard, daily streaks
  • Stack: Flutter and Firebase, with a Nastaliq font such as Noto Nastaliq Urdu
  • Phone features: touch drawing, audio playback and recording
  • Integrations: none required

7. Bike and car maintenance log (Easy)

Owners log fuel, oil changes and repairs. The app reminds them when the next oil change is due by kilometres or by months, and shows their real fuel average.

  • Modules: vehicles, fuel entries, fuel average, a service schedule by distance and date, repair records with receipt photos, reminders, a list of trusted workshops
  • Stack: Flutter or React Native with SQLite
  • Phone features: camera for receipts, notifications
  • Integrations: none required

8. AR furniture preview for local furniture makers (Hard)

Customers place true-size 3D models of a furniture maker’s sofas, beds and tables in their own room through the phone camera, change the fabric colour, and send the chosen design to the shop on WhatsApp.

  • Modules: a 3D catalogue, AR placement at real scale, fabric and colour options, screenshot and share, a WhatsApp order message, a shop admin for adding models
  • Stack: Unity with AR Foundation (ARCore), or Kotlin with SceneView, and 3D models made in Blender
  • Phone features: camera, ARCore motion tracking
  • Integrations: WhatsApp click-to-chat

9. Screen time manager for parents (Hard)

Parents set daily limits and bedtimes for apps on a child’s Android phone, see which apps take the most time, and approve requests for extra time from their own phone.

  • Modules: a child app with usage tracking, limits per app and per day, a bedtime lock, requests for extra time, a parent app with reports, tamper alerts

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to publish our FYP app on the Play Store?

No. A Google Play developer account costs a one-time US$25 fee, and a new personal account must run a closed test with real testers before it can publish to everyone. For the demo, share the APK or use Firebase App Distribution.

Does a mobile FYP need a backend?

Most do: for login, syncing between devices and an admin panel. Firebase is enough for many ideas; use your own API when you need custom rules or reports.

How do we make sure the app works on cheaper phones?

Test on an older Android phone with 2 or 3 GB of RAM, keep images small, and check that the app still works with a weak or no signal. Panels often ask about this.
