Careers & Internships article by Ezitech: Data Analyst Salary in Pakistan: What the Role Actually Pays

Three different jobs in Pakistan are advertised under the same title, and they do not pay the same. Before any salary figure is useful, you have to know which one a posting is describing.

Here is what each actually pays in 2026, and what moves your number faster than another year of experience.

Three jobs, one title

  • Data analyst. You answer business questions with existing data. SQL, Excel, a dashboard tool, and enough statistics to avoid embarrassing conclusions. The work is mostly reporting and investigation.
  • Data engineer. You build and maintain the pipelines that move data into a place where analysts can use it. This is software engineering, and it pays like software engineering.
  • Data scientist. You build predictive models and put them into production. Genuinely rare in Pakistan outside a handful of product companies, and frequently used as a title for what is really analyst work.

A posting titled data scientist that asks for SQL and Power BI is an analyst role with an inflated title. That matters, because accepting it at analyst pay sets your baseline for the next three years.

What each pays in 2026

Monthly, in PKR, for companies billing foreign clients. Subtract roughly 40 to 50 percent for local rupee revenue businesses.

Data analyst

  • 0 to 1 year: 55,000 to 100,000
  • 2 to 4 years: 120,000 to 250,000
  • 5 years and up: 260,000 to 450,000

Data engineer

  • 0 to 1 year: 70,000 to 130,000
  • 2 to 4 years: 180,000 to 350,000
  • 5 years and up: 400,000 to 750,000

Data scientist or ML engineer

  • 2 to 4 years: 200,000 to 400,000
  • 5 years and up: 450,000 to 800,000

The gap between analyst and engineer is the single most important fact in this article. Analysts who learn to build pipelines roughly double their band within two years, and the skills overlap more than the job titles suggest.

What employers actually test

SQL, in depth

Not select and where. Joins across several tables, window functions, common table expressions, and the ability to explain why a query is slow. This is the first filter in almost every interview and it removes most candidates.

A dashboard somebody used

Power BI, Tableau or Looker Studio. Interviewers do not want a chart gallery. They want one dashboard built for a real question, where you can explain what decision it changed. A dashboard nobody opened is a portfolio piece, not evidence.

Business reasoning

The most common interview failure is technical people who answer the question asked instead of the question meant. If sales are down and you are asked for a report, the useful answer explains why, not what. Analysts who do this get promoted past analysts who do not.

Python for data work

Pandas, cleaning messy files, and automating the report you currently rebuild every Monday. Not machine learning. Automation is what makes an analyst valuable enough to keep.

Four things that raise your band

  1. Learn one cloud data warehouse. BigQuery, Snowflake or Redshift. This is the clearest line between analyst pay and engineer pay, and it takes months rather than years.
  2. Own a metric, not a report. Being the person who is accountable for how a number is defined and whether it is trustworthy is a different job from producing files on request.
  3. Automate your own work publicly. Turning a four hour manual report into a scheduled job is the most legible value an analyst can demonstrate.
  4. Write short. A finding nobody reads has no value. Analysts who can summarise in three sentences get invited to the meetings where decisions are made.

Where the jobs are

In Pakistan the demand concentrates in ecommerce and retail, fintech and banking, telecom, logistics, and export software houses serving foreign clients. Banking pays well and moves slowly. Ecommerce pays less at entry and gives you far more data variety in year one, which is worth more early in a career.

If you are starting from zero, the entry problem is the same as in every technical track: employers filter on evidence of real work. Structured programmes exist for that gap, and Ezitech runs a data science internship and a big data analytics track built around live project work rather than exercises.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good starting salary for a data analyst in Pakistan?

55,000 to 100,000 PKR per month at an export market company, 35,000 to 65,000 at a local business. Below 35,000 for a full time analyst role in 2026 is under market.

Do I need a degree to become a data analyst?

No. SQL skill, one dashboard tool, and two projects built on real data get interviews. A statistics or economics background helps with the reasoning half, but it is not a gate.

Is data analytics a good career in Pakistan?

Yes, with one caveat: the analyst ceiling is lower than the engineer ceiling. Treat analyst work as the entry point and plan a move toward data engineering or a specific domain within two to three years.

Which is better, Power BI or Tableau?

Power BI has more job postings in Pakistan because Microsoft licensing is already in place at most companies. Learn Power BI first. The concepts transfer.
