How to get an internship in a software house in Pakistan

A step by step method that works for students with no experience: what to build first, how to find companies that actually take interns, what to send, and what to do when nobody replies.

Most students apply the same way. They finish the semester, send one line to thirty companies in April, and wait. The students who get placed did three specific things before that, and none of them require contacts.

The order that works

Step What to do When
1. Pick one track Web, mobile, AI, design or marketing. One. Not “any position”. Two months before you want to start
2. Build one small thing Not a clone tutorial. Something with a form, a database and a deployed link. Six to eight weeks before
3. Put it where it can be seen GitHub with a readable README, plus a live link if possible. Same time
4. Make a one page CV Projects at the top, degree below, no photo, no “expert in”. Four weeks before
5. Build the company list Twenty to thirty real companies, not job boards only. Three to four weeks before
6. Send properly One personalised email each, five to eight a day. Three weeks before
7. Follow up once After five working days, same thread, two lines. Ongoing

Steps 1 to 3 are the whole difference. An application with a link gets read; an application without one gets skimmed.

How to find software houses that actually take interns

  • Google Maps. Search “software house” plus your city and go through the list. Company sites usually have a careers or internship page.
  • LinkedIn. Filter for companies in your city, then look at who posts about hiring or intern batches.
  • Rozee and similar boards. Useful, but everyone applies there. Treat it as one source, not the only one.
  • Company directories. Listings of IT companies by city give you names you will not find on job boards.
  • Your seniors. The fastest route in Pakistan. Ask students a year or two ahead where they interned and whether it was worth it.
  • Your department’s industry list. Universities with MoUs often have partners who expect applications.

Keep a simple sheet: company, page you found, date you applied, reply. Without it you will email the same company twice and miss the ones worth chasing.

What to send

A short email that names the track and the dates, two or three things you can already do, and a link. Full templates are on our application letter and email page, and what belongs on the CV is covered in the CV that gets shortlisted.

Then prepare for the conversation: internship interview questions and how to answer them.

When nobody replies

  • Check the obvious. Is your email address professional? Is the CV a PDF? Did the link actually work when you last opened it in a private window?
  • Change the subject line. “Internship” is invisible. Track and dates are not.
  • Widen the city. Remote internships remove the location problem entirely.
  • Apply for the next cycle, early. Popular tracks fill first; the students who get in applied before the rush.
  • Build one more thing. Every additional real project raises the reply rate more than another twenty emails.

Warning signs worth walking away from

  • A “registration fee” with no programme, no mentor and no defined outcome.
  • No office address, no landline, no team page.
  • Work that looks like a paid client deliverable disguised as a test task.
  • A certificate promised on day one with no mention of what you will do.
  • Pressure to decide today. Real programmes take applications for weeks.

Fees are not automatically a scam, and free is not automatically good. The question is always whether someone senior spends time reviewing your work, which is covered on our certificate page.

Questions students ask

How do I get an internship with no experience?

Build one small project, deploy it, put it on GitHub, and reference it in every application. No internship in Pakistan expects work history, but they do expect evidence that you can build something.

When should I start applying?

Three to four weeks before the cycle you want, and earlier for popular tracks. For the summer cycle, spring is the time to apply.

How many companies should I apply to?

Twenty to thirty, personalised, over two weeks. Thirty identical emails in one evening perform worse than ten written properly.

Is a paid internship better than an unpaid one?

Not automatically. A stipend with no review teaches you less than a structured placement. Ask who reviews your work before you compare money.

Can I do an internship from another city?

Yes. Fully remote internships are normal now, and the certificate is the same.
