Internship Meaning in Urdu: Types, Terms and Examples
Internship meaning in Urdu, in one line: a fixed period of practical training and real work experience at a company or organisation, usually done by a student or fresh graduate under a supervisor.
انٹرن شپ: کسی ادارے یا کمپنی میں محدود مدت کے لیے عملی تربیت اور کام کا تجربہ، جس میں طالب علم یا نیا گریجویٹ کسی نگران کی رہنمائی میں اصل کام سیکھتا اور کرتا ہے۔
انٹرن: وہ شخص جو انٹرن شپ کر رہا ہو، یعنی زیرِ تربیت طالب علم یا نیا گریجویٹ۔
Roman Urdu: Internship ka matlab hai kisi company ya idaare mein kuch hafton ya mahinon ke liye amli tarbiyat, jahan student ya fresh graduate supervisor ki nigrani mein asal kaam kar ke tajurba hasil karta hai. Intern woh hai jo yeh internship kar raha ho.
Internship meaning in Urdu, explained simply
In everyday Urdu, people simply say انٹرن شپ, borrowing the English word. The formal equivalents are عملی تربیت (practical training) and تربیتی مدت (training period). Whichever word you use, an internship has four parts:
- A fixed period with a start date and an end date.
- Real work the organisation actually needs, not classroom exercises.
- Supervision by someone who guides you and checks your work.
- Learning first: the main purpose is experience, so interns are not treated as full employees.
Internship ka matlab kya hota hai? Example: a BSCS student who spends three months fixing bugs on client websites at a software house, with a senior developer reviewing the code, is doing an internship.
Intern, trainee, apprentice or employee: what each word means
The intern meaning in Urdu is closest to زیرِ تربیت طالب علم, a student under training, not ملازم (employee).
| English | Urdu | Roman Urdu | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intern | انٹرن، زیرِ تربیت طالب علم | Intern, zer-e-tarbiyat talib-e-ilm | A student or fresh graduate who works at an organisation for a fixed period to learn |
| Trainee | تربیت پانے والا، ٹرینی | Trainee, tarbiyat paane wala | Someone being trained for a specific role, often already selected for a job, such as a management trainee |
| Apprentice | شاگرد، اپرنٹس | Shagird, apprentice | Learns a trade by working under a skilled person over a longer period, common in technical trades |
| Employee | ملازم | Mulazim | Hired for a salary to do a job on an ongoing basis; expected to deliver, not mainly to learn |
Types of internship and their meaning in Urdu
By money: paid, unpaid and fee-based
| Type | Urdu | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paid internship | معاوضے والی انٹرن شپ | The organisation pays the intern, usually a monthly stipend | A company pays its summer interns a fixed amount each month |
| Unpaid internship | بلا معاوضہ انٹرن شپ | No money changes hands; you work and learn | A student runs social media for a small NGO for six weeks |
| Fee-based internship | فیس والی انٹرن شپ | The intern pays a programme fee for structured training and review | Ezitech: PKR 5,000 one time for the full 3 months, 7-day full refund, no stipend |
Free internship ka matlab is usually no fee for the student, and often no stipend either. The word that causes the most confusion is “paid”:
پاکستان میں پیڈ انٹرن شپ کا لفظ دو معنوں میں استعمال ہوتا ہے: کبھی اس کا مطلب ہوتا ہے کہ کمپنی آپ کو وظیفہ دے گی، اور کبھی یہ کہ آپ پروگرام کی فیس ادا کریں گے۔ درخواست دینے سے پہلے ہمیشہ پوچھیں کہ کون کس کو، کتنی رقم اور کب ادا کرے گا۔
So the paid internship meaning in Urdu depends on the advert: ask whether money flows to you or from you, how much, and whether it is one time or monthly. We explain our own fee on the paid internship in Pakistan page.
By place and season
- Onsite (دفتر میں حاضری والی انٹرن شپ): you work from the office with the team.
- Remote or online (گھر سے آن لائن انٹرن شپ): you work from home and meet your supervisor on calls. See online internships in Pakistan.
- Hybrid (دفتر اور گھر دونوں سے): a mix of both. Ezitech’s programme is hybrid by design: onsite in Rawalpindi or fully remote.
- Summer (گرمیوں کی انٹرن شپ) and winter (سردیوں کی انٹرن شپ): timed for university breaks. Ezitech’s summer intake runs July to September; there is no fixed winter batch because tracks run all year.

Why many degree programmes require an internship
Many degree programmes include an internship as a required course or a condition for graduating. Each department sets the minimum length, which organisations count and the report format, so check your handbook.
- Practice: you apply what you studied to real work with deadlines.
- Evidence: the department gets a certificate, a report and often a supervisor’s evaluation to grade.
- Employability: employers hiring fresh graduates look for practical experience on the CV.
Your department may give you a letter or NOC for the company. See our guide to the internship letter from university.
Internship vs job: the difference
| Point | Internship (انٹرن شپ) | Job (ملازمت) |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Learning and experience | Doing work in return for a salary |
| Duration | Fixed: weeks or months | Ongoing, or a longer contract |
| Money | A stipend, nothing, or a programme fee | A salary |
| Who it is for | Students and fresh graduates | Candidates who already have the skills |
| Supervision | Close guidance and regular review | More independent over time |
| At the end | Certificate and experience letter | Continues; experience letter when you leave |
An internship can lead to a job offer, but it is not a promise of one. Ezitech, for example, does not guarantee jobs to interns. If that is your goal, read how to turn an internship into a full-time offer.
