Billing Software in Pakistan: What It Does, What It Costs and How to Choose

Billing software in Pakistan is the program on the counter PC that prints the receipt, cuts the stock and keeps the khata. Software companies call it a POS (point of sale) system; shop owners call it billing software. Same thing.

This guide is for owners of general stores, pharmacies, mobile shops, bakeries and other small retailers deciding what to install.

Not sure which package fits? Send your shop type and number of counters on WhatsApp +92 345 5555396 (Mon to Sat, 10:00 to 19:00) and the EziPOS team will suggest one.

What billing software does in a shop, day to day

  • Bills and receipts. Find an item by name or barcode, apply a discount, take cash or card and print a thermal receipt in seconds, even in the Eid rush.
  • Stock. Sales cut stock and purchases add it, so you know what is left without counting the shelf.
  • Khata (credit). A customer list with running balances replaces the udhaar register. Better systems keep supplier ledgers too and remind you when payment is due.
  • Daily sales and closing. Cash, card and credit totals for the day to match against the drawer.
  • Returns. A return reverses the bill, puts the item back in stock and records who did it.
  • Users. Each counter logs in separately, so the owner sees who billed, discounted or deleted what.

Some trades need more: a pharmacy wants batch and expiry dates (see pharmacy management software), a mobile shop may record IMEI numbers, a bakery wants quick buttons for loose items. Ask to see these in the demo.

Online or offline billing software in Pakistan?

Question Online (cloud) Offline PC software
Where is the data? Provider’s server, backed up off site The shop PC’s hard disk
If the PC dies or is stolen Log in on another PC Data lost unless you kept a backup
Internet needed? Yes, unless it has an offline mode No
Check sales from home? Yes, on mobile Usually not
Updates and fixes Arrive automatically Only while the vendor supports your version
How you pay Monthly or yearly Usually one time

With load-shedding and patchy internet, the practical choice for most shops is cloud software that keeps billing offline and syncs later; EziPOS Growth has this mode. See cloud POS software and cloud POS vs legacy billing.

“Billing software free download full version”: the real cost

Many sites offer paid billing software as a free “full version” or cracked download. The costs come later:

  • No updates: a Windows update or new printer can stop it, and nobody will fix it.
  • No backup: one failed disk or stolen PC takes your sales and khata history.
  • No support when the printer stops on a busy evening.
  • Malware risk: cracked installers from unknown sites can carry viruses or keyloggers, on a PC where you may also open email or banking.
  • Not legal: it breaks the software’s licence, so the developer will not help you.

A genuine free plan from a developer you can contact is fine for testing. On a tight budget, a legitimate licence such as EziPOS Offline Basic (Rs 5,000 one time, no updates, 7 days of support) is safer than a crack.

When FBR integration matters for billing software in Pakistan

Tier-1 retailers: POS integration

The Sales Tax Act, 1990 requires Tier-1 retailers to integrate their outlets with FBR’s computerised system for real-time reporting of sales. Under section 2(43A), as amended by the Finance Act 2026, you are Tier-1 if any one of these applies:

  • a unit of a national or international chain of stores;
  • a shop in an air-conditioned mall, plaza or centre (not kiosks);
  • a retailer whose electricity bills over the last 12 months exceed Rs 1.2 million;
  • a retailer with turnover above Rs 200 million in the last 12 months, declared or worked back from withholding tax;
  • a wholesaler-cum-retailer of consumer goods with turnover above Rs 200 million.

If a Tier-1 retailer does not integrate, section 8B(6) cuts its adjustable input tax for that period by 60%. Our FBR POS integration page covers the process.

Sales tax registered businesses: digital invoicing

FBR’s SRO 709(I)/2025 (22 April 2025) directed sales tax registered persons to integrate their invoicing software with FBR through a licensed integrator or PRAL and issue electronic invoices. SRO 1413(I)/2025 (1 August 2025) replaced it with a phased schedule; dates may have changed since, so check the latest notification. See FBR digital invoicing integration.

If you fit neither group, confirm with your tax adviser before buying, because a move into a mall, a new branch of a chain or higher turnover can change your status. EziPOS is FBR integrated; among the published packages, FBR and PRA digital invoicing is part of Enterprise ERP. Ezitech also connects existing POS or billing software to FBR as a service.

How to choose billing software for your shop

  1. Count counters, users and branches.
  2. Count products and bills a month, and check both limits.
  3. Decide whether you need basic khata or full customer and supplier ledgers.
  4. Ask for a demo with your own products and receipt printer.
  5. Ask where the backup is and how you export your data.
  6. Check your FBR position before you buy.
  7. Ask who gives support, and when.
  8. Add up 12 months of cost, including hardware and add-ons.

A rough fit: a single-counter mobile shop, bakery or general store starts on Starter; a pharmacy with barcodes, supplier credit or a second branch fits Growth; a business that also wants accounting, payroll and FBR invoicing fits Enterprise ERP. Billing software questions from shop owners

Which billing software is best for a small shop in Pakistan?

One that fits your counters, items and khata customers, backs up daily and has support that answers. For one counter, EziPOS Starter at Rs 5,000 a month covers billing, stock, basic khata and backup.

Is there any free billing software for PC?

Some genuine free plans exist and are fine for testing. Cracked “full version” downloads come with no updates, no backup, no support and a malware risk.

What is the price of billing software in Pakistan?

It varies by vendor. EziPOS is Rs 5,000, 15,000 or 25,000 a month, or Rs 5,000 one time for Offline Basic, with hardware extra.

Can billing software work without internet?

Offline PC software can, but keeps data on one computer. EziPOS Growth keeps billing when the internet drops and syncs later.

Do I need FBR integrated billing software for my shop?

Yes if you are a Tier-1 retailer, for example a chain store, a shop in an air-conditioned mall or a retailer with turnover above Rs 200 million, or a sales tax registered business issuing invoices. If unsure, ask your tax adviser.

How do I keep khata (udhaar) in billing software?

Add the customer once and pick them on the bill; the software keeps the balance. EziPOS Starter has basic khata; Growth adds ledgers and due reminders.
